Hi Tony,
I finally had a chance to work on setting up my Trendnet camera, got a dyndns.org hostname (free version). So far I am only able to see my router when I use the hostname not the camera,
not sure where to go from here. Any tips appreciated.

Thanks
Darren

Good morning, Bruce!

Thank you very much for all the answers - makes complete sense.

I do already use dyndns.org for remote access to my home computers from work so setting up the cameras similarly is easy enough.  I gave them satic IPs, configured an alternate port number on the camera and setup firewall routing.  Works like a champ.

With all the networking out of the way I still have to get everything installed in their proper locations.  That is going to involve installing some electrical outlets at the right place but I keep changing my mind as to where I want to mount them.  It is a bit of a balancing act between ease of access and getting them where they give a good view.  Plus "the boss" is not going to be happy if I have them someplace where they stick out like a sore thumb.  Haha!

Just want to verify one thing:

Quote
I just used standard electrical wire.....

I presume you mean something like automotive type wire - like 12 or 14 gauge or something along those lines?  Just want to make sure so I don't burn my house down.   Grin

Thanks again for all your advice!

   Tony

It seems like most of the nation had a white Christmas and the Denver area was not an exception.  I went out the morning of Christmas Eve and shot some photos of the freshly fallen snow.  Attached is one.  I also created a slideshow of the images which you can check out here:  Thornton's holiday snow in pictures

Interesting.  Bummer that didn't work out but I am glad you tested it intead of me.  Haha!  Seems like WeatherLink has had a few problems with updates in recent months.
